CHINA: On a previous project, Rod and John Sedlak returned from Xining, China to survey Cable Tool Drilling and teach Health & Sanitation from Jul 22 - August 6, 2004. Those trained continue to teach this to poor in villages at the base of the plateau.

Rod led a team back to China to do in-depth and advanced drill training June '05.  That Tibetan team continues drill wells with a new rig, providing safe water to the many poor in the Tibetan Plateau area.  Your prayers and financial support are appreciated as we help bring safe water and healthier conditions to so many in need.  A return trip to provide advanced training for drilling training/ well-siting and for Community Hygiene trainers was completed June/July '06

SIERRA LEONE: In 2005, 16 pump repair trainees were trained along with 14 Hygiene trainers.  Rod returned in 2006, training 5 trainees in Makeni, Sierra Leone, West Africa, in bio-sand filter manufacture.  Bio-sand filters are technologically appropriate for this region lacking electricity and water systems.  A filter mold made by he, Phil Walker and John Sedlak of Upper Ojai was taken to Makeni where the training occurred.  It was used to make one filter per day to be sold at a reasonable price to those without safe water.

KENYA: October 14- November 4, 2006, Rod led trainers to Nukuru, Kenya to train teams to make biosand filters for the needy.  Each filter will provide up to 98%-99.9% pathogen-free water for up to 15 in an extended family for a lifetime, without further expense, if used correctly.  Each of the 10 molds can make over 200 filters per year each of which will provide up to 15 people with safe water.  This means that up to 3000 new people each year can have safe water for a lifetime.  Cost per filter is about $35 with no additional expense if maintained properly.

UGANDA:  In February 2007, Rod led teams to train biosand manufacture and pump repair in Northern Uganda.  Visit www.lifewater.org to see other project reports and how you can help.

ETHIOPIA:  Rod led a team of pump repair trainers to Addis Ababa and two other cities Oct 19th - Nov 16th 2007 for two separate trainings at opposite ends of the country to train repair teams serving a country that is twice the size of Texas but has one of the highest water-poverty indexes in the world.  Hygiene and Sanitation trainers are also being taught along with Transformational Community Development to the partner there as holistic solution for sustainable development.  Lifewater is working through the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus as it serves so many in need.  A return trip for advanced training was conducted April 2008
